4 friends, Long kayaks, and a Special Passanger

This weekend I made the epic journey south to attend the annual gauley River Festival. Friday was the WS Open. I had a mediocre run through at best. The real highlight of the whole trip was Saturday, my birthday.

Robin Betz, David Rugh, Michael Phund, and myself all fired up the full Gauley in long boats. It was a blast due in large part to our special friend Peter Vella. Peter is a sweet box of wine that remained nestled between my legs the entire journey down the river. Well, I should he didn't last the whole time because we killed it before the take-out (impressed?...you better be) right now you may be asking yourself how did they drive themselves back to the put-in The answer is Mike Phund. He is hardcore and did not a drop, so we were rolling complete with a DD.

The highlight of the day was watching Robin swim sweets after she had jumped on a raft that was in the box. It was hilarious and I must say I did feel a moment of uncertainty for her. She hit a sweet line. Saturday noght was the fest. and we continued to party it up there. All in all we drank for over 14 hours (you must be impressed now). The truly impressive news is that we got up at 7:00 on Sunday morning and flew down the upper before 11:00AM

I have come to realize that 4 friends (or should I say 5 including Peter), big boats, 26 miles of the "G" (and I don't mean Beth G), and a box of wine is a recipe for a great day.

Special thanks to Robin, Mike, Dave, and Peter for making it happen

Disclaimer: This should only be attempted once a year. If you feel the desire to do this more than once a year seek help you have a problem.

Eagle section of the Beaver

The World Cup Of Freestyle Kayaking rolled into Watertown this weekend. From my point of view they pulled off a great event. The international attendance was almost as impressive as the moves the competitors were able to do in our little hole. It was awesome to see everyone that I hadn't seen in a while and it was tempting to compete. However, the Eagle section of the Beaver was releasing and I had different plans.

Hobbit, Greico, Tony, Dave, John, and myself rolled over there to find the river to ourselves. It was like going to a waterpark, and having them turn the water on just for you. The pictures are pretty poor because it was raining and foggy. Enjoy!!!
